Initially established in 1908, Calallen remained an independent town until 1966 when it was annexed to Corpus Christi.  Calallen is named after Calvin Allen, who donated the land where the town was built.   Calvin Allen purchased a little over 1100 acres for $4,000 and planned to make the town an important agricultural center.  The St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railroad was chartered, Calvin Allen donated land with an abundant water supply from Old Sharpsburg to the Nueces River to make his dream of Calallen becoming a famous town in the area.  In 1908 the first post office was constructed in Calallen with Ira D. Magee as the first postmaster, which continued operation until the 1960s.  By 1914 Calallen was growing, and the town included nine businesses and 150 residents.  Businesses included mercantile stores, drugstores, lumberyard, bank, hotel, and a funeral home.  Prominent residents included cattlemen and influential business leaders in South Texas. Many residents supported themselves and their families by working at the Corpus Christi Water Plant.  Today Calallen has over 27,000 residents and is an excellent place to live and raise a family.
